💰 Cost & Buying

Cost & Buying How much does a custom closet cost?

It depends on the size of the space and how much of it you fill — a reach-in with shelving and a hanging rod sits at the low end, while a large walk-in with drawer banks, glass display doors, and a built-in desk sits at the top. Premium closet brands commonly run from around $2,000 for a basic system into five figures for a large walk-in. Because we sell factory-direct out of our own showrooms, our pricing lands below that. The only way to get a real number is a free 3D design — we price the actual layout before you order.

Cost & Buying Is the 3D closet design really free?

Yes. Share your measurements and a photo of the space, and we'll build a 3D layout showing the units, accessories, and finish you've picked, then price it. You approve the design and the price before anything is ordered. There's no design fee and no obligation to buy.

Cost & Buying Can I see the closet systems in person before I buy?

Yes, and we'd rather you did. Finish samples and system components are on the floor at our California showrooms, so you can see how Classic White reads against your bedroom light or how the drawer boxes feel before you commit. Finish photos on a screen never quite match the real panel.

📐 Planning & Measuring

Planning & Measuring How do I measure my closet for a design?

Three numbers get you started:

  • Width — wall to wall, measured twice: at the floor and at shoulder height. Walls are rarely square, so give us the smaller number.
  • Height — floor to ceiling.
  • Depth — front to back.

Then note anything that interrupts the wall: outlets, vents, baseboards, light switches, sloped ceilings, and which way the door swings. Add a photo of the whole space and we can work from that.

Planning & Measuring What's the difference between modular and fully custom closets?

Modular uses standard sizes — 15" and 24" depths, widths from 15" to 36" — that combine into most closets. It's the faster and less expensive path, and it fits the large majority of reach-ins and plenty of walk-ins. Fully custom is made to order for the situations standard sizes can't solve: an odd wall, a tricky ceiling angle, a specific look you have in mind. Your designer will tell you which one your space actually needs.

Planning & Measuring Walk-in or reach-in — does it change what I can order?

Mostly it changes the layout, not the parts. A reach-in is a single wall, so the design question is how to stack double-hang, long-hang, and shelving into one run. A walk-in wraps two or three walls and opens up corner units, drawer towers, island seating, and glass display sections. Both use the same frameless system and the same finishes.

Planning & Measuring How long does a closet take?

Reach-in closets built from the modular system often turn around the same week. Fully custom builds take longer because the panels are cut to your design — your designer will give you a date when the layout is priced.

🪵 Product & Construction

Product & Construction What are Apex closet systems made of?

Frameless engineered panels with a durable finished surface, 3/4" on the sides. The boards are CARB Phase 2 compliant, which is the California formaldehyde-emissions standard. Frameless construction is what gives you the full interior width of the opening — there's no face frame eating into the space, so you get more usable hanging and shelf room than a framed system in the same footprint. (Same principle as our Euro Frameless cabinets.)

Product & Construction What finishes do closets come in?

Four coordinated finishes: Classic White, Fabric Gray, Pale Pine, and Satin Dusk. They're designed to work together, so a closet in one finish and a built-in desk in another still read as one piece. Samples are on the floor at every showroom.

Product & Construction What can I put inside the closet?

Hanging rods at single and double height, adjustable shelving, drawer banks, shoe shelving, corner units, glass-front display sections, and integrated desks. Several of our wardrobe systems also build in under-bed storage.

The point of the 3D design is to figure out the mix — most people over-order hanging and under-order drawers, and seeing it laid out fixes that before you pay for it.

Product & Construction Can a closet match my kitchen cabinets?

Not in the exact same finish — the closet system runs its own four-finish palette, separate from the cabinet lines. If matching matters to you, bring a cabinet door or the finish name into a showroom and we'll show you which closet finish sits closest. For a genuine match, some buyers build the closet out of cabinetry instead; ask a designer whether that makes sense for your space and budget.

📦 Pickup & Install

Pickup & Install Do you install closets?

No — closets are pickup only from your Apex showroom. The frameless system is designed to assemble and mount cleanly, so many buyers install it themselves, and others hand it to their own contractor or handyman. Nothing in the system requires specialty tools.

Pickup & Install Can I install a closet system myself?

Most people can. The panels arrive ready to assemble, and mounting is a matter of getting a level line on the wall and anchoring securely into framing. Budget a weekend for a reach-in and bring a second set of hands for the tall units — the panels are more awkward than they are heavy.
