Engineered Stone Countertops — Built for Every Indoor Surface

Engineered stone is a factory-manufactured surface composed of crushed natural stone aggregate and polymer resin — delivering a non-porous, zero-maintenance countertop that never requires sealing. Its consistent color and pattern make seam-matching straightforward, and its resistance to everyday spills, acids, and stains makes it ideal for busy kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms, indoor home bars, shower walls, and more. Every engineered stone countertop at Apex is prefabricated to one of five standard dimensions — 6″×110″, 26″×110″, 36″×110″, 42″×110″, and 52″×110″ — covering every common kitchen, bathroom, and specialty layout. All sizes are physically in stock at our six California locations, available for same-week pickup. 100+ colors. Free 3D design with every quote. Walk-ins welcome.

All 5 Sizes 🍳
Kitchen Countertop

The primary use case — non-porous means spills, oils, and food acids never absorb. Zero maintenance, consistent color at every seam, same-week pickup.

26" · 36" · 52" 🛁
Bathroom Vanity

Single and double vanity tops, bathroom ledges, and tub surrounds. Non-porous resists moisture and beauty products without sealing. The 52" covers the most generous double vanity in one seamless piece.

26" · 36" 🧪
Laundry Room

A full-length folding surface above front-load washers and dryers. Handles detergent spills and moisture without staining — and transforms the most functional room in the house.

36" · 42" · 52" 🍸
Home Bar (Indoor)

A 52"×110" bar top seats five to six guests. Non-porous handles wine, spirits, and citrus without etching or staining — unlike natural stone. Same factory-direct slab.

26" · 36" · 52" 🚿
Shower Walls & Tub Deck

Large-format panels eliminate grout lines — a seamless, moisture-resistant surface dramatically easier to clean than tile. One slab per wall. No joints for water or mold to penetrate.

36" · 42" · 52" 🪑
Dining & Coffee Tables

A 36"×110" slab becomes a dramatic 10-person dining table surface. Consistent color and pattern make engineered stone ideal for furniture where visual uniformity matters.

26" · 36" 💻
Home Office Surface

A built-in desk that is scratch-resistant, easy to clean, and more durable than wood or laminate alternatives — at the same factory-direct price as a kitchen countertop.

Common Questions

Engineered stone questions,
answered directly.

The questions buyers ask most before purchasing engineered stone. For a full material comparison covering all six countertop materials, visit our complete countertop guide.

Full Countertop FAQ →
Does engineered stone need to be sealed?
Never. Engineered stone is non-porous by construction — the manufacturing process binds crushed stone aggregate with polymer resin, filling all microscopic pores. Liquids, bacteria, mold, and mildew cannot penetrate the surface. No sealing is required at installation or at any point during the life of the countertop. This is one of engineered stone's most significant practical advantages over granite and natural stone, which require annual sealing.
Can I put hot pots and pans directly on engineered stone?
No — always use a trivet or hot pad. The polymer resin binder begins to soften and can permanently discolor or crack at approximately 150°F (65°C) — well below the surface temperature of a hot pan. This damage is not covered by manufacturer warranty and cannot be repaired. If direct heat contact is important for your kitchen, granite or sintered stone are the correct alternatives. See our full FAQ for a complete heat resistance comparison by material.
Can engineered stone be used outdoors?
No — engineered stone is an indoor-only material. The polymer resin binder is not UV-stable. Prolonged sun exposure causes the resin to yellow, fade, and structurally degrade over time. This applies to all engineered stone products regardless of manufacturer. For outdoor kitchens, BBQ islands, and covered patios, granite, natural crystalline stone, and sintered stone are the appropriate choices — all three are UV-stable and fully weatherproof. Ask our showroom team for outdoor-rated options.
What is the difference between the five prefab sizes?
Standard base cabinets are 24" deep; a countertop with 1–1.5" overhang fits the 26"×110" size for most kitchen and laundry runs. 36"×110" covers a peninsula, indoor bar top, or dining table surface. 42"×110" works for a wide island with single-side seating or a generous double vanity. 52"×110" is the largest — full kitchen island, master bath double vanity, or a 6-person indoor bar top. The 6"×110" is specifically for backsplash applications. Our team helps you calculate the right combination before you purchase.
Can engineered stone be used in bathrooms, shower walls, and other rooms?
Yes — any indoor room that benefits from a durable, low-maintenance surface. Bathroom vanity tops, laundry room surfaces, indoor home bar tops, shower wall panels, dining table surfaces, and home office desktops are all excellent applications. In wet environments like showers, the non-porous surface eliminates grout lines — creating a seamless, moisture-resistant finish dramatically easier to maintain than tile. The slab material is identical regardless of room — only your size choice changes.
How do I clean engineered stone countertops?
Daily cleaning: warm water and a few drops of mild dish soap, wiped dry with a soft cloth. Most common household cleaners are safe — Windex, Clorox Multi-Surface, 3M Glass Cleaner. For stuck-on residue, a plastic scraper (never metal). Avoid: bleach at high concentrations, oven cleaners, caustic drain cleaner residue, and abrasive scouring pads that will dull the polished finish. No special stone cleaners or pH-neutral products are ever needed.
Will lemon juice, vinegar, or wine stain or etch engineered stone?
No. Unlike marble, engineered stone does not etch from acidic contact. Its non-porous surface resists lemon juice, vinegar, wine, tomato sauce, coffee, and other kitchen liquids without dulling, staining, or etching. This is one of the most significant practical advantages over marble for everyday kitchen and bar use. Wipe spills promptly as a general habit, but there is no risk of the chemical etching reaction that permanently damages marble.
How quickly can I get my countertop after purchasing?
Same week for in-stock slabs. Because all Apex engineered stone countertops are prefabricated to standard sizes and physically stocked in our California warehouses, there are no 4–8 week fabrication wait times. Walk into any showroom, select your slab, confirm the color and size is in stock, and schedule pickup — most orders are ready within the same week. Call your nearest location before visiting to confirm availability.
What finishes and edge profiles are available?
Three surface finishes: Polished (high-gloss, most vibrant color, best stain resistance — the standard for kitchens), Matte / Honed (smooth satin, conceals fingerprints, slightly less stain-resistant), and Leathered (textured surface, warm tactile quality, hides water spots). Two edge profiles: Round Bullnose (smooth continuous curve, classic) and Square Bullnose (sharp 90° edge, contemporary). Visit any Apex showroom to feel both profiles on real slabs before deciding.
Do you work with contractors and offer trade pricing?
Yes — Apex has a dedicated contractor trade program. Volume pricing, net 30 terms for qualified accounts, priority inventory access, and free 3D design for every client project. We supply materials only and never compete with your installation business. Visit our contractor program page to request your rate card — same-day response during business hours.
