Slab Applications

Stone countertops aren't just for kitchens.

Every prefabricated slab Apex carries is the same quality material — regardless of where it ends up. The 52"×110" island slab a homeowner picks up for their kitchen is the same piece a designer installs as a master bath vanity, an outdoor bar top, or a fireplace surround. The room changes. The stone doesn't. Our team can help you plan any application across all five standard sizes.

36″×110″Peninsula
42″×110″Wide
52″×110″Large Island
All 5 Sizes 🍳
Kitchen Countertop

The most common application — perimeter runs, peninsula returns, and the kitchen island. All five prefab sizes are in stock for same-week pickup across six California locations.

26″ · 36″ · 52″ 🛁
Bathroom Vanity

Single and double vanity tops, bathroom ledges, and tub surrounds. The 52"×110" covers the most generous master bath double vanity — with room for the sink cutouts — in a single piece with no seam.

36″ · 42″ · 52″ 🔥
Outdoor Kitchen

BBQ island tops, outdoor bar counters, and covered patio surfaces. Select material compatibility matters for outdoor use — ask our showroom team which stones are rated for exterior applications.

36″ · 42″ · 52″ 🍸
Wet Bar & Home Bar

A 52"×110" bar top comfortably seats five to six guests. The same slab that makes a kitchen island makes an exceptional home bar surface — and at the same factory-direct price.

6″ · 26″ · 36″ 🕯️
Fireplace Surround

Hearth platforms, mantel shelves, and surround cladding. The 6"×110" backsplash size is built for fireplace surround applications. Stone fireplaces are one of the highest-impact design statements in a living room.

26″ · 36″ 🧺
Laundry Room

A full-length folding and sorting surface over front-load washers and dryers. One of the most underutilized applications — and the one that most transforms a utilitarian room into a space people actually enjoy using.

36″ · 42″ · 52″ 🪑
Dining & Coffee Tables

A 36"×110" slab becomes a 10-person dining table surface. A 26" piece makes a dramatic coffee table top. Stone furniture surfaces are heat-proof, scratch-resistant, and built to outlast any wood or glass alternative.

26″ · 36″ · 52″ 🚿
Shower Walls & Tub Deck

Large-format stone slab shower walls eliminate grout lines — creating a seamless, moisture-resistant surface that is easier to clean and more visually dramatic than tile. A single slab per wall with no joint lines.

5 Standard Prefab Sizes

One purchase. Every room in the house.

All Apex countertops are prefabricated to five standard dimensions — factory cut, finished, and edge-profiled before they arrive at our warehouses. What you inspect in our showroom is the exact piece that goes into your project. No surprises. Available in all materials across all six California locations.

Full Countertop FAQ →
Can I use a countertop slab in a bathroom or other room — not just the kitchen?
Yes — all five Apex prefab sizes work in any room where a durable, beautiful surface is needed. Bathroom vanities, laundry room folding surfaces, home bar tops, outdoor kitchen islands, fireplace surrounds, shower wall panels, and dining table surfaces are all common applications. The slab material is identical regardless of room — your choice of stone and size determines what's right for each specific application. Our showroom team can help you plan any non-kitchen layout at no charge.
What is the difference between the five prefab sizes — which do I need?
Standard base cabinets are 24" deep; a countertop with 1–1.5" overhang fits in the 26"×110" size for most kitchen runs. 36"×110" covers a peninsula or deeper island. 42"×110" works for a wide island with single-side seating or a large double vanity. 52"×110" is the largest — ideal for a full kitchen island with seating overhang, a master bath double vanity, or an outdoor kitchen island. The 6"×110" is specifically designed for backsplash applications. Our team will help you calculate which combination of sizes covers your exact layout before you purchase.
Which materials work for outdoor kitchens and BBQ islands?
Granite, natural crystalline stone, and sintered stone are fully outdoor-safe — all three are UV-stable, heat-proof, and weatherproof. Engineered stone is not suitable for outdoor installation — the resin binder is not UV-stable and will degrade and yellow under prolonged sun exposure. Marble is also not recommended for outdoor use. If your project includes an outdoor kitchen or covered patio, visit your nearest Apex showroom and ask specifically for outdoor-rated materials — our team will guide you to the right slabs.
Can the same slab work for both a kitchen island and a bathroom vanity?
Yes — and this is one of the best ways to create a cohesive design throughout your home. Using the same stone in the kitchen and the master bathroom creates a pulled-together flow from one space to the other. Because all Apex prefab countertops are prefabricated to standard sizes and available in 100+ colors, coordinating a kitchen island slab with a bathroom vanity top in the same material — or a complementary one — is straightforward. Bring your measurements for both rooms and our design team will help you plan it together.
Do I need to seal my countertop after purchase?
Depends on the material. Engineered stone and sintered stone: never — both are non-porous by construction. Granite and natural crystalline stone: seal at installation, reseal annually (test with the water-drop method). Marble: seal every 3–6 months for kitchen use; annually for bathrooms. Butcher block: apply food-grade mineral oil regularly. For a complete material-by-material care guide, see our countertop care page.
Can I put hot pots and pans directly on my countertop?
Only on granite, natural crystalline stone, and sintered stone. These three handle direct heat without damage — no trivet needed. Engineered stone must always have a trivet — the resin binder softens permanently at approximately 150°F. Marble can handle brief heat but is vulnerable to thermal shock over time. For outdoor kitchens and high-heat cooking environments, granite and sintered stone are the correct material choices. See our full FAQ for the complete heat resistance breakdown by material.
How quickly can I get my countertop after purchasing?
Same week for in-stock slabs. Because all Apex countertops are prefabricated to standard sizes and physically stocked in our California warehouses, there are no 4–8 week fabrication wait times. Walk into any showroom, select your slab, confirm the size is in stock, and schedule pickup — most orders are ready within the same week. Call your nearest location before visiting to confirm availability of your specific material, color, and size. Priority pickup is available for trade account holders.
What finishes and edge profiles are available?
Three surface finishes: Polished (high-gloss, best stain resistance, most vibrant color — standard for kitchens), Matte / Honed (smooth satin, conceals fingerprints, requires more diligent sealing on natural stone), and Leathered (textured, follows the stone's natural character, hides water spots). Two edge profiles: Round Bullnose (smooth continuous curve, classic — good for family kitchens and bathrooms) and Square Bullnose (sharp 90° edge, contemporary look). Visit any Apex showroom to feel both profiles on real slabs before deciding.
Can I see countertop slabs in person before buying?
Yes — and for natural stone, we strongly recommend it. All six Apex California locations display full-size stone slabs on vertical racks so you can see the actual material at countertop scale under real lighting. For natural stone, no two slabs are ever identical — a 4" sample tile cannot show you how the veining looks across a full kitchen island or bathroom vanity. You can select and tag the specific slab that will go into your project. Walk-ins are welcome at all locations — no appointment needed.
Do you work with contractors and offer trade pricing?
Yes — Apex has a dedicated contractor trade program. Volume pricing, net 30 terms for qualified accounts, priority inventory access, and free 3D design for every client project. We supply materials only and never compete with your installation business. Contractors sourcing countertops, cabinets, and vanities from Apex consistently recover significant margin versus comparable retail channel products. Visit our contractor program page to request your rate card — same-day response during business hours.
